realized its hard to hear through phone microphone

basically when i have a character who's voice goes deeper than mine, they have something tacked on with it (mayor of citytownsville having a gravelly voice). but when i just make my voice deeper normally, it has this weird tone? as if i'm trying to pick someone up at a bar.

and am failing miserably.
