so this is about to get a bit dark,,,
ok so one of my best friends just texted me saying that her dad died 2 days ago on Saturday
Her dad had bad breathing problems due to Covid and she was living with him because her parents are divorced. Her mom is terrible and she has an older sister but idk much abt her.
I've known her since 5th grade and we were best friends ever since. She moved away to a different city after 6th grade and now we can only talk through text
Like I said, her dad died and I'm trying to be the most supportive I can.
she really needs a hug but she prefers personal space. I DON'T CARE. GIRL YOU NEED A HUG AND I'M A HUGGER, GET YOUR BUTT OVER HERE
fishsoupwhat do i say

I can relate to the issue you're in, I've had to comfort a couple of classmates too
If I were to look back, I wish I could tell them the right words to show that I could care, but I couldn't seem to think of anything to comfort them.
I think, if you don't know what to say, just offer them a hand to squeeze and stay with them, and lend them a shoulder to cry on.
If she prefers personal space, give them what they want, but occasionally check on them.
I don't know what the grieving process is, but it's nice to just sit there in silence next to them.
