What's the American School System?
Knowing that I don't live anywhere in the US, I usually get confused when I heard people JUST started their new school year lately around this month. Is it that students from American schools start a new year in August-?
Here where I'm from, we usually only get 2-week vacations, and our year levels change from the start of February to the end of November.
I was just interested in how the American school system goes, so please explain it to me!
sparkyyAight, I'll try my best
So there's typically 2 months of summer vacation during the months of June and July, meaning school usually starts back up again sometime in August and ends somewhere around the end of May or early June.
WHenever you start a new school year you move up a "grade" or whatever. You basically start your first year of school during kinder but then the year after kinder, you start first grade all the way up to 12th grade. 1st graders are usually 6 years old, 2nd graders are usually 7, ect. Kinder and first grade to 5th or 6th grade is usually elementary school or primary school.
Middle school is 7th and 8th grade and some schools have 6th 7th and 8th grade classes instead {like my school} so middle school is usually 12-14 year olds. High school is 9th - 12th grade them BOOM college.
Say its earlier in 2021 and we'll use me as an example I guess;
It's May 2021 or whatever and I'm finishing up 7th grade, bam, summer comes, heat wave and wilde fires come and go, now it's August. The new school year starts up and I'm in 8th grade, my last year of middle school. When this school year ends {2022} then I'll be in high school
sparkyy....whoa i never thought about that last part-
WTH I'MMA BE IN HIGHSCHOOL LESS THAN A YEAR FROM NOW-
sparkyyI'm rereading this and I suck at explaining lol
School begins in Early-Late August, depends on how the school feels that year or smth. And there are 13 grade levels. Ranging from Kindergarten (0th Grade?) to 12th grade.
You then get a 1-3 day breaks sprinkled in the school year. Then 1 week off (3-4 days sometimes) at the end of November, 2 weeks off at the end of December, 1 week off at the start of January, and a 1 week off in April (usually the one of the first 2 weeks).
Monday through Friday.
Also, in some places (curse my current place for having this thing) different school levels (Elementary (K-5/6), Middle (6/7-8), High (9-12)) start at different times.
If you would like anymore information I can give some.
