Hi, Mental illnesses aren't quirky, cute, or funny.

They shouldn't be taken lightly. especially if someone is actually suffering.

Paragraph thing 1: "Quirkiness"

Don't self diagnose because you have a symptom.

Ex: "I have depression because I was crying for 5 minutes1!"

Actually talk to a doctor or someone you trust to help you if things get serious or if you suspect something.

Depression, Anxiety, Anorexia (and more) aren't cool or a personality trait.

Your not helping people who are already suffering.

I get uncomfortable when people start to say things like:

"I'm super depression!" "U-uwu anxietys owo" "I haven't eaten in a day!! I think i have [illness]!!1" "Give me 20,000 likes and i'll stop gucci braclet!!!"

Like wtf

People can end up dying because of these illnesses, and your just doing it for attention/clout.

Don't slap it on your bio or just comment about it anywhere.

Paragraph thing 2: Characters

If you're going to give a character a mental illness, be realistic and actually do research.

If a character has social anxiety, don't overexaggerate. Give the character some symptoms, like faster heart rate, shaking, feeling embarrassed etc. SAD is not just being "shy" as well.

(Netflix has a show where they did the complete opposite of what i just wrote. I'm assuming that they overexaggerated because it's a tv show for kids, but really, wtf.)

Depression is not being sad all the time and looking emo/edgy. The character can be really sad sometimes (people with depression can be happy. wow!1!). There is a lot more to depression, so do RESEARCH.

Not everyone's going to have the same experience.

The same goes for every other mental illness.

also i have characters that are murderers but i dont make them seem like good people for it and they have their reasonings for it rather than "teehee killing ppl is fun" (theyre hitmen)
