I think you can check the thread limit by commenting on a thread every minute or so and that wouldn't be NECCASSARILY spam. And if other people pitch in, it might help you.

I pay for a database server, if it runs out of space, I have to pay more for a bigger server. I would much rather not do that for a load of nonsense.

If I see a thread getting too big, I will lock it. It's too cumbersome to read through too many posts in a single thread.
