black has retrograde amnesia as a result from a future injury to his head shortly after his escape, which essentially means hes lost the memory of his real origins and simply believes he appeared in an empty white void (probably for the best)

black, red and blue are the only characters that were created by an animator, but their ways of escape differed (for example blue pretended to befriend his animator and then betrayed him so he could escape)

red and blue both know about their origins, however choose to let black believe he just appeared in the white void (mostly because theyve never really had the time to explain it to him)
